As fellows at NYU Wagner, African women study in one of two graduate programs: the two-year Master of Public Administration (MPA) (for details, visit http://wagner. nyu.edu/internat ional/ ) or the one-year Executive MPA: Concentration on International Public Service Organizations (for details, visit http://wagner. nyu.edu/executiv empa/ ).

The award will support tuition, housing, travel to and from the United States, and a small stipend to cover books and miscellaneous expenses. Fellows commit to return to their home country at the conclusion of the program with the goal of assuming a leadership position in a public service organization where they can meaningfully contribute to the challenges confronting Africa.

CPCC.EDU: Central Piedmont Community College

Cpcc.edu

From Wikipedia: Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) is a large community college in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. The school was founded in 1963; it is the result of a merger between Mecklenburg College and the Central Industrial Education Center.

CPCC has seven satellite campuses (and a Virtual Campus), all in the Charlotte Metro area. It is by far the largest and most comprehensive community college system in North Carolina and South Carolina. The school is part of the statewide North Carolina Community College System.

Why is CPCC.edu: Central Piedmont Community College in the news today?

Evidently with many people having lost their jobs due to the crisis many are opting to go back to college to broaden and sharpen their skills for the coming future. With some colleges like cpcc.edu reporting very high enrolment requests and lack of budget leaves it difficult for the colleges to accommodate all.

I myself been thinking to change things now the only solution is pack bags and go back to school. So, the CPCC.edu: Central Piedmont Community College hopefuls for sure are not alone.

Scholarship Search: Know Where to Find Scholarships

Author: J Clark

“Apply to as many scholarships as you can!” This has been one of the most common recommendations for college hopefuls who need student aid to pursue their higher education. And for those of you who aren't sure of making the cut, one thing you can do is apply to as many scholarship opportunities out there as you can. By expanding your pool of scholarship providers, you boost your chances at bagging at least one scholarship to finance your education.
Applying for multiple scholarships shouldn't be a problem, since tons of opportunities are out there for you to consider. Unfortunately, searching for the right scholarships is still a little difficult for many students. Because although thousands of scholarships are up for grabs out there, a lot of college aspirants are still confused about which ones they could actually qualify for.
Part of this confusion stems from a myth that scholarships are based on academic or athletic merit. Because applicants are immediately eliminated by such a limited scope of eligibility in traditional scholarships, people tend to think that their options are likewise limited.
But this isn’t the case at all. Not only are there so many scholarships available each year, there are also so many types of scholarships offered as well. Chances are, you will find a scholarship that accommodates your unique strengths and is willing to help you pursue a college education. All you need to know is where you can look for scholarships that match you and your professional goals.
One of the most reliable sources of information would be your high school guidance counselor. More often than not, guidance counselors have useful information regarding different types of scholarships offered in different colleges. Discuss with your guidance counselor where you plan to apply and which course you are planning to take, and then ask what your available scholarship options are. In addition, your guidance counselor would probably know your best attributes as a student and can therefore provide insights on what scholarships are tailored for you. High school guidance counselors may also give you advice on what you need to do to improve your chances of winning a scholarship award.
But guidance counselors aren’t the only valuable sources of information in your high school. Club advisors in the organizations that you are a member of may also be knowledgeable in scholarships that put special emphasis on the extra-curricular activities you participate in. It could help you a lot if you ask for their advice as well. By doing so, you can have a better idea about which scholarships are available to you based on your strengths and interests as a student.
Now that you have a basic understanding of where you can start looking for scholarship opportunities, it’s time to do the gritty work. Although you already have an idea of what scholarships are offered by the colleges you are interested in, don’t limit yourself to the scholarships offered by academic institutions. Look for other scholarship providers that aren't as well-known so the competition isn't too stiff. There are many more sources that offer various types of scholarships, such as foundations or organizations like the Rotary Club or your local Masonic Lodge.
Of course, there are other general types of scholarships that are given based on sociological background such as need, heritage, ethnicity, religion etc. Understand which demography you belong to so you can see if there are more scholarships available to you. These scholarships may also be searched online. If you wish to, you may also contact your local government for more information regarding need based government student aids.
As long as you know where to search and how to search for scholarships that suit you, your options won’t seem limited at all. For the current generation, searching and applying for different scholarships has become more convenient than ever, thanks to online resources that yield promising scholarship results with just a mouse-click. The rest depends on you and on how much you're willing to work to land a scholarship perfect for your own skills and talents.

HOW TO APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS,GRANTS AND FELLOWSHIPS
BY JULIUS .B.OGUNBIYI[Goldberg]
www.goldbergdx.page.tl
more scholarship links, addresses, and help are on the above website for all.

What you must know before applying is important to be clear on the scholarship requirements. After all, you want to be sure you are eligible before you apply for scholarships. If you are not, you are wasting your time, as well as the time of the business or individual offering the scholarship.
In addition to making sure you are eligible before you apply for scholarships, understanding the requirements also helps guide you through the application process. Failure to follow the application requirements correctly when you apply for scholarships will almost certainly result in denial of the scholarship. This can include failure to include a specific form or even filling out the forms with the wrong ink color. Therefore, you absolutely must read all of the requirements and guidelines when you apply for scholarships. If you do not, all of the work you put into the scholarships will be wasted because your application will not even be considered.
If you have heard about a particular scholarship and you are not sure of the requirements, it is perfectly acceptable to write to the company or individual to request an application packet. Even if you do have application guidelines, be sure they are the most current versions before you apply for scholarships. Scholarship guidelines routinely change from year to year.
After you apply for scholarships, be certain to follow up with a telephone call. At the very minimum, you should call to make sure the application has been received. This is a time consuming part of the application process, but well worth the effort. The companies or individuals offering the scholarships most likely have dozens or even hundreds of applications to sort through. Making a follow up phone call is one way to make sure your name is remembered. Therefore, making sure the applications have been received is an essential step when you apply for scholarships.
If a particular post-secondary institution has already accepted you as a student, you might also apply for scholarships offered through the college or university. To learn about possible scholarship opportunities, contact the financial aid office of the institution. Once again, be certain to follow the guidelines exactly as they are described in the scholarship packet and personally check up on the scholarship application if possible.
Both a fellowship and a scholarship are considered grants, and sometimes the terms may be used interchangeably. Most fellowships are also scholarships, but scholarships may not be fellowships. Some differences exist between a fellowship and a scholarship, but these can be variable and depend upon the grant-giving organization.
A fellowship and a scholarship are usually differentiated because scholarships tend to be given to undergraduate college students, primarily for the purpose of general education expenses. They may be limited as to the type of major a student has, but most are more general and award gifts of money for education based on superior school performance. Some also take into account need, or may require specific skills. The Miss USA pageant and Miss America pageant are both scholarship programs. Women who win these pageants receive money to continue their education at the undergraduate or graduate level.
In many cases, you don’t need to get into a swimsuit in order to win a scholarship. Most are based on application only, and any qualifications that make you particularly eligible to receive the scholarship. There are many peculiar conditions which may make you eligible for a scholarship: your last name, your status as a single parent, your possessing a disabling condition, or your specific research goals as a student. More general scholarships given by countries and states may be given to students who will attend school full time, have a minimum grade point average ( GPA ) of at least a B average, and who can demonstrate financial need.
One difference between a fellowship and a scholarship is that most fellowships are not based on need. They are usually based on skill, GPA, and qualifications to work in a certain field. Another distinction between a fellowship and a scholarship, is that most fellowships are payment for some type of work, such as teaching at the college level, while obtaining a master’s degree or Ph.D, or doing extra training in a hospital to earn board certification as a specialist in a certain field of medicine after an M.D. has been earned. Fellowships tend to pay for internships or fieldwork, so that students, usually at the graduate level, can enhance their training in their field of interest.
There are some paid internships available to students at the undergraduate level. These may qualify as both a fellowship and a scholarship, or they may simply be referred to as scholarships. Many of the country’s top museums offer fellowship and intern opportunities to students at the undergraduate level, usually in their junior or senior year of college.
The fellowship further implies a limited timeline and a stated period of months in which work or internships will be completed and people will be paid. The main difference here between a fellowship and a scholarship is that most scholarships last for at least a semester in school, though some may be given more generally to pay for school expenses. Fellowships can last for a few days, a few weeks, a couple of months, a year, or a couple of years depending upon the scope of the work involved, and they normally pay in increments, by monthly stipend, instead of awarding the total amount of money at one time.

Hot Jobs that will make you money today and in future

Top ten jobs to beat the recession and make you money

Author: samantha

Although unemployment remains sky high in the UK, a rise in house prices and new job vacancies in certain sectors would suggest that we are emerging from the recession. But what do you do when you have spent months seeking a job and have found nothing? Below are 10 careers that will help you beat the recession and most will be flexible enough to fit around your family needs or other commitments. Never has the term ‘Work to live’ had such true meaning until now that is. So, if you’re stuck in a rut with your career going nowhere, read below for the jobs that are likely to help you survive a recession: 1: Catalogue sales and Party Plan Catalogue sales and Party Planning are great ways to make money. You need not be a natural sales person so long as you enjoy meeting new people, are organised and sociable. Depending on the business, you can start with catalogue sales at first and as you grow in confidence and your business develops you can eventually move on to Party Planning. As with most work, the more effort you put in, the more you get out. An added advantage of these forms of work is that they are flexible and can be done on a part time or full time basis; you get support from a Team Leader or Sponsor so you never feel alone and you get to do a job that you love, working for yourself. Party Planning companies include: FM Perfume, Ann Summers, Avon, Virgin Vie, and Oriflame to name but a few. What about people cutting back on spending during the recession? I hear you say. Well, whilst many people will indeed spend less during a recession, people also want to feel pampered and invest in themselves to cheer themselves up through hard times thus allowing themselves ‘treats’ to feel good. 2: Pound shops / Discount stores Pound shops have been reported to be extremely successful during a recession as people want bargains and high quality products. No, I am not advising that you set up a pound shop, but it is certainly one good way to make you money in a recession. Think Poundland, savers, Lidls and Aldi who’s sales have done very well during a recession. If you intend on setting up such a pound shop or discount store, look at your location to ensure that there are no others in the vicinity as you may not wish to position yourself too near a similar shop unless you are selling different products or are able to make your business unique from your competitors. 3: Children’s Activities / Children’s after care service Imagine a parent who works and has no family or friends who can collect the child from school and entertain them? That is why there is always a need for children related services which are tailored to the needs of parents especially those who are in work, working inflexible jobs. Recession has meant that many mothers have had to return to work soon after having a child or re-enter the workplace after years of not working. Because of this, there is a greater need for nursery places as well as children’s activities and after care services to keep children occupied. If you have a qualification to do a certain activity, hold a current CRB (Criminal Records Bureau Government regulations and guidelines, then you could rent a hall and market your activities in defined areas where your target group are likely to visit. When ensuring that the activity is tailored to the needs of children, you will need to conduct market research to gage the views and opinions of parents and carers. Once a demand is noted and feedback is positive, analyse your results and use that knowledge as part of your business plan. 4: Fast food/Take away Now you may be saying to yourself that during a recession people eat out less, thus favouring to cook at home to save money. Whilst this is true, it is not always the case if you are offering people something different to what’s out there already. If, for example you want to open a Caribbean food shop and there’s limited competition in your area you can monopolise that. If the food is reasonably priced, features a take away option and the quality is high, with great customer service and service delivery then your shop will be more memorable because you stand out. When people don't want to cook they may choose to visit a take away, especially if it is easy to get to and convenient. Two such shops that have never been short of customers even in a recession are called Take Two and Ting and Ting. These two shops have the following in common which make them stand out and ensure that customers keep returning. 1: They both offer efficient service. Especially if you are in a hurry and cannot wait long for your food 2: The staff at Ting and Ting are warm, friendly and welcoming so you don’t feel like a stranger and have charming charisma to draw people in 3: Good choice of food for all tastes 4: They are positioned in ideal locations and the type of food offered means that there is little to no competition 5: Quality of food is high and offers value for money 6: You can either eat in or take away 5: Become a Doula A few years ago, media reports suggested that there was a shortage of UK midwives. This would heavily impact on mother’s to be as they may have been sharing midwives which lead them to become anxious. Such a revelation caused mothers to seek doula’s to help support them and their spouse’s through the birth of their child. Doula agencies also responded to the need by offering to either train or refer new applicants to train to become Doula’s. So if you are a mother who has a caring and supportive manner, you may choose to train as a pre or post birth doula offering parents advice, support and even practical help, helping out with light domestic chores in the home so that the parents can spend time with their new baby. It must be noted that a Doula cannot perform the same role as a midwife; however they are trained to offer parents practical and emotional support in a variety of ways. As mothers continue to have children and require one to one support, a doula will soon be seen as a necessity rather than a luxury service. To find out about training as a Doula, contact the British Doula Association. 6: Ironing service If you have a few hours to spare in the day and you enjoy ironing, you could offer an ironing service. There are many people who see ironing as a boring and time consuming chore that they would quite happily pay someone else to do. You only have to look at some of the adverts on Netmums to see that there is indeed a need for such a service. Consider doing door to door pickups and drop offs as well as a quick turnover in getting the clothes ironed. If you become good at it – word of mouth (a great tool for marketing) will spread thus bringing you in more business and money. If you find that there is competition in your area, look at how you can make your ironing service stand out from the others without adversely affecting the profit you make. 7: Home Tutor / Host Family There is always a need for good teachers especially in Maths and, Science therefore whether you’re already a teacher or a Degree Educated person you can offer home tuition in the subjects you trained in. This is a good profession where you may be able to work within your own area; the pay is from £20+ per hour and is flexible. If you have not taught before or it has been some time since you last taught, you will have to study the curriculum in your subject and be highly knowledgeable enough to teach and assist the young person but it is a great way to supplement your income. If considering this role, ensure that you have a current CRB check and fulfil the requirements of an agency in order to join. Some agencies will pay you a greater sum of money if you even have a spare room in which to host foreign students and have a certain number of hours to dedicate to teaching English. Now, not all host family agencies require you to teach but some do and may ask that you are educated to Degree standard. You will be required to supply food, clean towels pick up and drop off students at school, but the money paid should cover a large portion of these expenses. 8: Debt Adviser During the emergence and heart of the economic downturn, an increasing number of people sought help when faced with mounting debts, repossession, and loss of earnings; this lead to debt agencies advertising in National, as well as local newspapers. Adverts suggested that they could help people manage their debts and could suggest ways in which they could be cleared. The competition in this field was high but was in response to the growing trend and financial problems people were experiencing. Although, many debt agencies may have been acting unscrupulously during these times there were many that abided by regulations and guidelines. One company that I became aware of made applicants pass two interview stages and take a psychometric test before being allowed to train, as a Qualified Debt Adviser. If you were unable to pay for the course in full, you could apply for part funding. Once training was completed, you would be assigned work in your own area and work on a self-employed basis earning money according to the numbers of cases that were referred for an Individual Voluntary Arrangement, or where clients acted upon your advice. Now, I’m not suggesting or advocating that this job is for you as you will have to conduct your own full and extensive research in this field however, it is a serious consideration. 9: Virtual Assistant A Virtual Assistant assists small businesses with secretarial, technical or administration duties especially when businesses expand employers find that they need help with certain tasks that they may find overwhelming. Most virtual assistants work from the comfort of their own home on a flexible basis negotiated with their employer. So if you have a good background in administration, secretarial or technical work, you can apply your skills to this profession. Duties could involve answering phones, book keeping, and sending emails. The more skills you have, the more useful it may be to businesses. You may find that you could use your marketing skills and experience to advise a business on how to market to a different target market, or market effectively. Furthermore, using your skills and knowledge in PR you may be familiar with writing Press Releases for different mediums and audiences. The key is to look at your skills, qualifications and experience and ask yourself how can businesses benefit from your knowledge. What suggestions can you make to enable businesses to: • Generate more clients • Gain publicity • Encourage website traffic and exposure • Increase sales or service users • Make service delivery faster or more efficient As an increasing number of people seek self employment to fit around the needs of their family and other commitments, the need for virtual assistants is ever more needed. 10: Social Workers According to media reports, there is a shortage of social workers after Victoria Climbie and Baby P’s cases came to light. Many people were put off from entering this profession however the fact remains that there is still a need for well trained social workers to deal with vulnerable groups in society. You only have to look at the numbers of children in care to see that the need for social workers will not fade through the recession. One of the routes to social work is by taking a Degree in social work.

Pupils helping pupils: Notehall buy and sell notes

Who would imagine the digital era would bring all these possibilities to the world.
When I was in high we had organised into study groups the best student in class teamed with the worst and so on. This strategy ended giving our class the best we could. ALl the students in my class qualified for university, I still associate the excellent work we did with the idea of teaming up and helping each other this was way back in 94, and if you want to know where I went to high is 'Materi girls' in a small remote area in Tharaka, Meru Kenya.

Ideas like those of notehall the today ebay for students, your source for class notes...sounds good.

Current Job Openings
Development Economist & Director of Impact Evaluation & Monitoring

Link to this job posting

Function Area: Impact Measurement, Evaluation and Monitoring
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Reporting to: CFO
Liaising with: Research Team from IFPRI (International Food Policy Research Institute)

KickStart International www.kickstart.org is an award winning non-profit with a mission to enable millions of people in Africa to escape poverty. It designs low-cost capital equipment and mass-markets it to very poor entrepreneurs who buy the equipment to start highly profitable small-scale businesses. KickStart’s best selling, human-powered, MoneyMaker irrigation pumps have already enabled more than 80,000 farmers to move from subsistence to commercial farming, grow high value fruits and vegetables throughout the year, and very substantially increase their family incomes. KickStart has programs in Kenya, Tanzania, Mali and Burkina Faso and has sales activities in, and plans to expand into, other countries in Africa.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

KickStart is a data and impacts driven organization that uses a systematic, statistically valid methodology to monitor the socio-economic impacts of its market based program.

We are looking to hire a Development Economist / Director of Impact Evaluation & Monitoring (DIEM) to lead:
1. A ground breaking Research Effort in Collaboration with IFPRI to measure the true impacts of KickStart’s MoneyMaker Pumps.

2. The further innovation, upgrading and expansion of KickStart’s impact measurement systems.

The primary responsibilities will be to:

• Work closely with, and coordinate KickStart’s collaboration with, IFPRI (www.ifpri.org) which KickStart is hiring (with funding from 3ie ( www.3ieimpact.org) and the Gates Foundation) to design and implement a detailed 3-Year Study on the Impacts of KickStart’s MoneyMaker Pumps.

• This exciting study will look at all aspects of the pump’s impacts including impacts on family income, nutrition and health, education, the position of women and children, and the environment. The case study countries will be Kenya and Tanzania.
• The study will pioneer new sampling methodologies that can be used to evaluate impacts of other similar “market-based” development solutions.
• The outcomes of the study will be co-authored articles by the DIEM and the IFPRI team published in peer-reviewed academic journals
• This position and study would make an ideal post-doctoral project, from which future research and publishing opportunities can be pursued.

In addition to implementing the study the Development Economist will:
• Help build the capacity of and manage KickStart’s Impact Monitoring Team
